Harry Potter Greatest Moments: Part 2

Okay as I promised part 2 of my earlier blog.

  1. A important moment in the Harry Potter Series, and with the fans, occurred in the very beginning of Deathly Hallows. Hedwig, Harry's owl, was killed right next to him. J.K. started the book off with some good foreshadowing and also on a dark note. This is important, even though we didn't want to see the "snowy white owl" go, because it shows that this is the final book and death will find many of our favorite characters and even villains. Hedwig's death also symbolizes the rise of evil. Hedwig was pure, hence the color white, and Death Eaters are evil, portrayed with black. This is good vs evil and good loses early on in the battle which can symbolize how they were losing early on during the war with Voldemort. A good literary device from Rowling.
  2. A big moment was when, Harry uses his first Unforgivable Curse against Bellatrix and also, when he uses Imperious Curse in Gringotts Bank. These moments show Harry's descent into the darkness and his struggle with staying pure and using the power of love and not hate. When Harry uses Crucio on Bellatrix it is from grief and hate at what she has done. This test him and is a hurdle he has to make. But in Deathly Hallows when he uses the Imperious Curse it is necessary for survival, which test him as well. He successfully uses the curse and does not get hooked like most other people do. Harry's heart has been tested again and again and he has strayed off the path of love, but always finds his way back.
  3. A powerful moment in this series is when, Harry has to choose between Horcruxes and The Hallows. At this part he has to decide does he want to confront power with power or evil with love. They are the same in this case, but one will decide who he will become and who he should not become. He chooses the horcruxes, which he thinks is a bad idea, but turns out to be the best idea. This part is the climax of the story and whatever he did chose would become the focus and if he choose Hallows we might have another story altogether. In my opinion I would have preferred him to go after the Hallows, because I am weird. I love it when main characters are over powered. But anyway on to the next one.
  4. The thestrals are a nice addition to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, because it brings more to the series. imagine a beast you can only see if you have seen death. That weird, but in a way cool. Finding out about them is cool because he got to divulge why Luna could see them and found out more about her. Also, it adds mystery to Harry Potter that keeps readers hooked. A common question asked is "Why couldn't Harry see them until he saw Cedric die (Robert Pattinson ha ha) when he saw his mum and dad die?,". That is a good question I cannot answer, but good all the same. Just thought I should share.
  5. Finally, the last moment, still a big one nonetheless. "Harry walked into Deaths waiting arms". This is when he goes to face Voldy and knows he must die. This part is so significant that I could write a 20 page essay on it and only cover his walking into the forest. Not really, but it is significant. During this scene Harry discovers the riddle on the golden snitch "I open at the close," which answer was " I am about to die". Harry finally understands what Dumbledore was training him for and what valor he needs to face this last challenge. Dumbledore also anticipated Harry would need his parents and deceased loved ones as a source of courage, so he left the final Hallow in the snitch. As Harry goes to be killed and stands before Voldemort he does not flee, but stands there and takes the final blow. The scene after this with Dumbledore was very important, but as I said only 10 moments in the book.
This concludes my top 10 book moments, and I will soon update with my top 5 movie moments.
